Parvovirus: Public Service Announcement

Area shelters have shown an increase in Parvovirus in the Kansas City Metro area.

Rest assured we are using appropriate disinfectant protocols in our facility to keep it as germ free as possible.

Symptoms of Parvovirus typically include but not limited to:

  • Sluggishness/change in energy level
  • Loss of appetite
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea (blood in stool may be present)
  • Rapid weight loss
  • Fever

Adult dogs that have been previously vaccinated should be protected against this virus.

Dogs are usually exposed to the disease 7-14 days before symptoms show. This means that a puppy can look healthy for one to two weeks before acting sick. While cleanliness is important, vaccinating is the cornerstone for protecting your dog against this potentially deadly virus. All dogs need to go through a series of vaccines before they are protected when exposed to the virus.

We are proud to be contributing to the metro area and providing vaccinations to help you protect your furry loved ones. PRCKC is offering $10 Parvo/Distemper vaccinations at both Wellness Care Clinics.
