How It Works

Using the scanner is quick and easy.

  1. Bring the found dog or cat to the scanning station.
  2. Follow the simple, step-by-step instructions available in English and Spanish.
  3. Scan the pet for a microchip.
  4. The station will guide you through exactly what to do next, whether:
    • A microchip is found, or
    • No microchip is detected.

No guesswork. No waiting until morning.

Why This Matters

Every year, countless lost pets are found by caring community members. Unfortunately, many have to wait hours—or even days—before they can be scanned for a microchip.

Our 24/7 scanning station removes that barrier, helping pets get back home faster while reducing stress for both the finder and the pet.

Since launching, we’ve already celebrated successful reunions thanks to the scanner, and communities across the region have taken notice.

A Community Partnership

This project was made possible through the generous support of the Neighborhoods and Housing Services Department, City of Kansas City, Missouri.

Their investment has created a free, accessible resource that helps keep pets safe and families together.

Our Mission

The 24/7 Microchip Scanning Station is just one more way Pet Resource Center of Kansas City is working to Keep Pets and People Together.
